U.S. Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins has announced the U.S. Department of Agriculture plans to reopen Farm Service Agency (FSA) offices this week and release more than $3 billion in farm funding that had been delayed during the recent shutdown of the federal government.

It’s been a tough year for agricultural markets, from the extensive list of retaliatory tariffs in April to a continual back-and-forth exchange about trade outlooks with top soybean buyer China in recent months. The last thing the markets seemed to need was the Oct. 1 US federal government shutdown. Since then, many (not all) market participants have been forced to walk through another layer of uncertainty as updates from the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) regarding export sales, planting and harvest progress and several other verifiable data points have gone dark during an important time of the year.
