Farm Bankruptcies Rise | WIA Demeter Recipients Named | Safety of Glyphosate Will Be "Respected"

Farm bankruptcies nearly doubled in the first three months of 2025 compared with last year, and experts don’t expect the trend to change. Data from the federal court system show 88 Chapter 12 filings through March 31. Last year there were 45 filings during the same period.
Women in Agribusiness (WIA) announced the recipients of the organization’s Demeter Award of Excellence 2025. They are Leah Anderson of WinField United and Land O’Lakes, Inc.; Frances Churchill of Kansas State University; and Sara Neagu-Reed from the International Fresh Produce Association. The organization received more than 35 nominations with several candidates receiving multiple nominations.

Progressive Farmer’s Jerry Hagstrom reported that “the initial Make America Healthy Again Commission report said glyphosate and other pesticides may have a negative impact on children’s health, but the upcoming MAHA report on recommendations for action will ‘continue to respect regulatory frameworks’ that have found glyphosate is safe, a high-ranking Environmental Protection Agency official said here Tuesday at the American Sugar Alliance’s International Sweetener Symposium.”
