The United States and the European Union are pleased to announce that they have agreed on a Framework on an Agreement on Reciprocal, Fair, and Balanced Trade ('Framework Agreement').
The United States and the European Union intend this Framework Agreement to be a first step in a process that can be further expanded over time to cover additional areas and continue to improve market access and increase their trade and investment relationship.
Federal crop safety net changes in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act -- including enhancements to the Price Loss Coverage and Agriculture Risk Coverage programs -- were designed to help an agriculture industry facing a challenging economic situation.
While agriculture industry leaders and important government figures are saying those changes should help, they're beginning to acknowledge that they may not be enough -- or may not come soon enough -- to make a meaningful impact for farmers. At events this past week, both Senate Majority Leader John Thune and Zippy Duvall, president of the American Farm Bureau Federation, addressed the potential need for additional federal assistance for farmers, on top of the changes made in the OBBBA.
According to USDA data, China has yet to purchase any U.S. soybeans this year. While U.S. exports to China typically ramp up in the fall after U.S. harvest season starts, the lack of any sales is triggering major alarm bells. Just five years ago, China purchased about 12 million tons of U.S. soybeans through mid-August.
